STEM Learning has partnered with TechnipFMC to bring about a change through the CSR initiatives in the city of New Delhi. The capital city of India has experienced a practical learning reformation in 3 government schools post the installation of Mini Science Centres (MSCs). As per the Census of 2011, Delhi has population of 1.68 Crores, an increase from the figure of 1.39 Crore recorded in 2001 census. Also, the literacy rate in Delhi has seen an upward trend and is 86.21 percent as per 2011 population census. STEM is quickly becoming an educational initiative because of its ability to integrate. A quality STEM program helps students to gain the skills required to succeed in today's challenging world. The competition in the global marketplace is on the rise for a highly skilled, highly educated workforce that has the ability to work independently and creatively and STEM Learning seeks to meet this challenge.
The concepts learnt by students in the classrooms with the help of the MSC exhibits stay with the students. It has been noticed that students who learn by understanding tend to retain information easily. In the event their peers were absent, students have been proactive in dispensing knowledge to their peers. Students do not only understand the concepts easily with the MSC exhibits but also feel confident in their abilities to share the knowledge they’ve acquired. With 1200 students trained with the help of plug & play table top exhibits and 12 teachers up skilled through continuous teacher training and retraining programs, the children from these schools are benefitting with the modern day pedagogy approach. With students learning by doing, engaging in peer learning, confidently growing into independent learners, they are getting comfortable with STEM subjects and are becoming learners for life.
Use of the exhibits reforms the pedagogy approach in schools. Teachers have gained confidence in the potential of utilizing learning aids to teach students as well as students are able to understand tough concepts easily. With the plug and play models, students play and learn various science and math concepts. Since exploring is an innate tendency of students. When students are introduced to learning aids their inclination to learn new concepts is witnessed while they explore the exhibits.
Teaching aids such as MSC exhibits have proven to be an integral part of the classroom. By relieving feelings of boredom and reinforcing a skill or concept in a fun way, STEM Learning has truly enhanced the learning and retention of math and science education among students in government schools. Since the challenge faced by teachers is to reach all the students in the classroom, learning aids play a crucial role to bridge these gaps.
As part of the CSR initiatives, Corporates encourage employees to contribute to the society. As part of the employee volunteering program, the employees have shared their industry expertise with students, thus igniting the career opportunities that lie ahead. Employees conduct quiz competitions and are even trained to maximise this experience. STEM Learning provides the necessary tools for the holistic growth of students.
