I believe in women empowerment not only because im women because I came from house hold where I have seen when women is educated how difference it makes , they say “If you educate a woman, you educate a family, if you educate a girl, you educate the future.”
Especially demographic like India where girl child education is must as India is still involving country. India is ranked 105 out of 128 countries on UNESCO’s Education Development Index, scoring particularly low in the gender-specific ‘Education for All’ category. Just a glimpse into the classrooms of public schools will tell you that educating ‘India’s daughters’ does not rate very high on the Government’s’ priority list. Sloganeering a Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme is hardly enough; recent media outrage has largely tended to a girls’ right to life. But should that be where the buck stops for making demands with the Government for nearly half of India’s population?
Science and gender equality are vital to the world reaching sustainable development goals, and in recent years much has been done to help inspire women and girls to study and work in technical fields. But women continue to be excluded from participating fully, According to the UNESCO ground-breaking report Cracking the code: Girls’ and women’s education in STEM, only 35% of STEM students in higher education globally are women, and differences are observed within STEM disciplines.
For example, only 3% of female students in higher education choose information and communication technologies (ICT) studies. This gender disparity is alarming, especially as STEM careers are often referred to as the jobs of the future, driving innovation, social wellbeing, inclusive growth and sustainable development. UNESCO is giving special attention to this issue as part of its efforts to promote the empowerment of women and girls through education and as a response to its Member States’ decision on UNESCO’s role in encouraging girls and women to be leaders in STEM, including arts and design.
STEM education helps to bridge the ethnic and gender gaps sometimes found in math and science fields. Initiatives have been established to increase the roles of women and minorities in STEM-related fields. STEM education breaks the traditional gender roles. In order to compete in a global economy, STEM education and careers must be a national priority. Each and every decision made uses an aspect of STEM to understand the implications.
